We’ve lived and worked in the 19th century warehouse at Llanfoist Wharf on the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal since the beginning of 2001 – moving in on our daughter Meg’s 5th birthday. Our holiday cottages developed as part of our narrowboat business which initially operated from Llanfoist Wharf. Now, Beacon Park Cottages is run by Sarah.
The three storey Wharfinger’s Cottage became our first holiday cottage. Renovating this iconic building, which has fronted the canal since its construction in 1800, was a fascinating project.
Incline Cottage followed in 2014, and was a conversion of a toll house on the old incline leading to Llanfoist village. When Wharfinger’s Cottage was a private residence, the toll house had become its garage and storeroom.
We moved the narrowboats to a larger wharf at Llangattock in2015, giving us the opportunity to convert the dry dock we had built some years before. Originally, the place where Sarah painted boats during the winter months, this conversion was a technical challenge which we thoroughly enjoyed. It welcomed its first visitors in the spring of 2017.
We really enjoy living in this beautiful part of Wales -which has given us so many opportunities to indulge our passions for being on the water and enjoying the outdoor life.
